Square Hospital is one of the most renowned private hospitals in Dhaka, Bangladesh. It is widely recognized as one of the country’s top three high-end private healthcare institutions, alongside Evercare Hospital Dhaka and United Hospital Dhaka. The hospital is managed by Tapan Chowdhury, who currently serves as its Managing Director.

Established with the vision of delivering world-class medical services, Square Hospital initially started as a 300-bed facility and has since expanded to a 400-bed, multi-disciplinary tertiary care hospital. The hospital is well-equipped with modern diagnostic tools, advanced medical technology, and specialized healthcare services, including emergency and ambulance facilities.

History and Establishment

Square Hospital was founded on 16 December 2006 by Samson H. Chowdhury, the founder of Square Group—one of Bangladesh’s largest and most respected conglomerates. From its inception, the hospital aimed to maintain international healthcare standards.

To ensure high-quality medical care, Square Hospital was established in collaboration with several internationally recognized healthcare institutions, including:

• Methodist Le Bonheur Healthcare, Memphis, USA

• Care IVF Centre, Singapore

• Christian Medical College & Hospital, Vellore, India

In addition, the hospital maintains a partnership with Raffles Hospital, further strengthening its global medical network.

Notable Events

In 2008, former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina received medical treatment at Square Hospital during her detention under the caretaker government, drawing nationwide attention to the hospital’s medical capabilities.

Later, on 11 January 2012, the hospital faced a fine from the Department of Environment due to excessive noise pollution caused by generator operations. Since then, environmental and operational compliance has become an important area of focus.
